Located on the left side of the northern hum in Dakota County, Mendota, Minnesota in a tiny city of around 200 residents. The name “Mendota comes from the Dakota Indian language, meaning “mouth or junction of one river with another.” This is also why the city refers to themselves as “the city where the waters meet. The city of Mendota is located at the convergence of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers. The city is also surrounded on three sides by the city of Mendota Heights.

Mendota is very close to Minneapolis, as the city is just 20 minutes to the north. The main road through the small city is State Highway 13, also referred to as Sibley Memorial Highway. The majority of other  roads in the city are small unimproved roads. The city has a total geographical area of 0.30 square miles,  of which 0.27 0.03 is water.
